Apollo 100 was a short-lived British instrumental studio based group in the 70's that had a instrumental hit with the Johann Sebastian Bach-inspired single "Joy" in 1972.
Arranger Tom Parker put together the band in 1972, with drummer Clem Cattini, guitarist Vic Flick, guitarist Zed Jenkins, percussionist Jim Lawless, and bassist Brian Odgers. Their first single "Joy", based on Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring", rose to number 6 on the pop singles chart in the U.S. and also climbed into the Top 10 in Europe. A few more minor hits followed such as "Besame Mucho", William Tell Overture" and "Melody On My Mind" which was also released under the titel "Tidal Wave".
"Joy" was originally released as a single without the guitar part in the middle section and is still favoured by most to be the better (fluent) version.
